Hezbollah is set to refight last summer's war with Israel — as part of a video game.

The Lebanese Shiite quasi-terrorist group, militia, political party and social-services provider has developed a PC game based on the month-long war that erupted after Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, Reuters reported.

Called "Special Force 2," the game is presumably a sequel to "Special Force," a 2003 game developed by Hezbollah in which the player battles Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon during Israel's 1978-2000 occupation.

"This game presents the culture of the resistance to children: that occupation must be resisted and that land and the nation must be guarded," a Hezbollah spokesman told Reuters.

In the new first-person shooter, the player takes on the role of a mujaheed, or holy warrior, and scores points by killing Israeli soldiers, firing at tanks and launching missiles over the border into northern Israel.

The actual war, which lasted from mid-July to mid-August 2006, was characterized by fierce ground skirmishes as well as surgical Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese infrastructure and badly targeted Hezbollah missile attacks on northern Israel.

The Lebanese military did not take part, nor did any of the other dozens of sectarian Lebanese armed militias.

About 1,000 Lebanese civilians and roughly 500 Hezbollah fighters were killed, though actual figures are hard to come by.

Israel reported 119 soldiers and 43 civilians killed, but the failure of the Israel Defense Forces to recover the two kidnapped soldiers, who are presumed to be still alive, allowed Hezbollah to claim a strategic victory.
