SEOUL, South Korea —  A U.S. military helicopter made an emergency landing in South Korea Thursday, but there was no human or property damage, police said.

The Apache helicopter was in training with two people aboard when it landed at a rice paddy in Hoengseong, about 85 miles east of Seoul around 6:30 p.m, said Shin Young-keun, an officer at the Hoengseong Police Station.

"Nobody is hurt and there was no damage to the helicopter," Shin said.

The incident came as tension was high on the Korean Peninsula after North Korea fired seven missiles on Wednesday. There were concerns that the communist state may fire more missiles.

About 29,500 American troops are stationed in South Korea as a deterrent against the North, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War. The conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty, leaving the two divided states technically at war.
