Oklahoma Sooners QB Baker Mayfield was arrested early Saturday in Arkansas on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest, according to the Washington County sheriff's office. He will have a hearing Monday.

According to the preliminary police report, obtained by The Associated Press, Mayfield initially told an officer he was trying to break up an altercation. However, Mayfield eventually began "yelling profanities and causing a scene" before attempting to run away. He was tackled by an officer and handcuffed.

The university released this statement on Saturday morning:

Mayfield, who will return for his senior season in 2017, finished third in the 2016 Heisman Trophy voting (after a fourth-place finish in 2015). He threw for 3,965 yards and 40 TDs with just eight interceptions last season as the Sooners capped an 11-2 season with a win over Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.
