The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series begins its annual northern summer swing this weekend, but early indications are that weather could be a factor at Pocono Raceway both today and during Sunday's scheduled running of the Axalta We Paint Winners 400 (FS1, 12:30 p.m.).

Sprint Cup practice is slated to run today from 11 a.m. to 12:25 p.m., with qualifying at 4:15 p.m. Both will be televised on FS1.

As of 9 a.m., weather.com was calling for possible thunderstorms to begin around 11:15 a.m., with a 45 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms at 4 p.m.

Race day is even worse, with a 90 percent chance of showers, including a potential for severe thunderstorms.

That said, the weather at Pocono tends to be particularly unpredictable, with big storms sometimes passing nearby without hitting the track, while other times pop-up cells seem to come out of nowhere and soak the track.

And besides, last weekend's forecast for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway called for a 80 percent chance of rain, yet the race remained dry and went the full distance with no delays whatsoever.

FOXSports.com will have frequent weather updates throughout the weekend.
