Dan Haren thanks baseball on his way out as he makes retirement official

Dan Haren thanked baseball on his way out, making his retirement official shortly after the Chicago Cubs were swept out of the NLCS by the New York Mets on Wednesday night.

Haren had revealed his decision after winning his final start of the regular season, saying he'd stay ready in case the Cubs needed him in the playoffs.

Now that they are out, he has time for more trivial pursuits -- like catching up on this whole "Star Wars" thing.

He split time this season between Miami and Chicago, going 11-9 with a 3.60 ERA.

Haren finishes his 13-year career with a 153-131 record and a 3.75 ERA, but it was another career stat that he seemed to savor.
