Texas right-hander Victor Gonzalez has been suspended for the first 72 games of next season following a positive test under baseball's minor league drug program, and Seattle left-hander Joe Pistorese and free-agent outfielder Anderson Caro have been banned 50 games each.
Gonzalez, who is with the Dominican Summer League Rangers 2, was disciplined for a positive test for metabolites of Stanozolol, the commissioner's office said Friday. He was 0-2 with an 8.18 ERA in one start and five relief appearances this season.
Pistorese, a 17th-round draft pick this year who was 6-0 with a 1.28 ERA at Class A Everett, tested positive for an amphetamine.
Caro had a second positive test for a drug of abuse and will serve the penalty when he signs with another major league organization. He was 1 for 32 for the DSL Royals, who released him on July 9.
There have been 83 suspensions this year under the minor league program, including 32 for drugs of abuse.
