Dimitri Flowers got to Norman, Okla., and a year later they changed the offense.
That's OK, if you're a receiver, a running back or even, in some cases, a quarterback.
But Flowers plays fullback and was recruited to be involved in a way that's a bit different from the new offense Lincoln Riley and the Sooners will run this season.
"Of course it definitely made me worried," Flowers said to The Oklahoman. "I'm looking at his ECU roster, they didn't even have a tight end/fullback listed. It was just one of those things.
"But once we got rolling into spring, rolling into camp, I started realizing it was nothing like that because I still saw the field a lot more than I was expecting to. A lot more than last year, even. I'm really excited for this year to see what we can do, to see what we're made of because we have some special people back there."
Flowers played all 13 games last season while Riley was the offensive coordinator at East Carolina. Now, Riley is in Norman and Flowers is going through a transition., including learning how to block for the first time in his career.
I worked hard at it, and I'm still getting better. I feel like I'm miles ahead of where I was last year in the blocking aspect of it. I'm in the backfield a lot, I'm out wide sometimes. There's a whole bunch of different packages and play calls that we can have that just move us all over the field."
