Wilshere, four others agree to new Arsenal deals

Arsenal locked up a handful of key players on Wednesday as the club agreed to new long-term contracts with Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson.

Wilshere has recently returned from a long-term injury to appear in 10 games in all competitions for the Gunners, who have high hopes for the 20-year-old England international.

Ramsey, 21, also sustained a major injury last year and has fully recovered to be a regular contributor for Arsene Wenger this season, while the 19-year-old Oxlade-Chamberlain has made his mark when given the opportunity since his arrival from Southampton in 2011.

Gibbs has started 11 games in the league at left back and fellow defender Jenkinson has made 10 Premiership appearances this season as cover for right back Bacary Sagna.

"We are delighted that these five young players have all signed new long-term contracts," Wenger told the club's website.

"The plan is to build a team around a strong basis of young players, in order to get them to develop their talent at the club. Jack is certainly the best known, the leader of this group - but the other four players are exceptional footballers, and we're very happy that we could conclude their new deals at the same time."
