The Houston Astros placed outfielder Justin Maxwell on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday as a result of loose bodies in his left ankle and purchased the contract of infielder Scott Moore from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Maxwell hasn't played in the outfield since June 20 and will undergo an athroscopic procedure within the next week to remove the loose bodies.

The 28-year-old was hitting .231 with eight home runs and 24 RBI in 61 games this season, but is expected to miss the next four to six weeks.

Moore, who was active for Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, hit .318 with 10 homers and 54 RBI over 73 games at Oklahoma City this season.

The Astros also announced that outfielder Travis Buck was reinstated from the 15-day DL and designated for assignment, while outfielder Fernando Martinez was also reinstated from the 15-day DL and optioned to Oklahoma City.

Buck was recovering from tendinitis in his right Achilles and hit .216 with six RBI in 33 games with the Astros this season.

Martinez appeared in four games with Houston and knocked in two runs before landing on the DL on June 9 with post concussion syndrome.
