The Detroit Tigers have placed outfielder Andy Dirks on the 15-day disabled list with right Achilles tendinitis.

Dirks is batting .328 with four homers and 16 RBI in 37 games for the Tigers this season.

To fill Dirks' spot on the roster, Detroit purchased the contract of outfielder Matt Young from Triple-A Toledo.

In 51 games for Toledo this year, Young hit .259 with one homer and 16 RBI. He batted .208 in 20 games for the Braves in 2011.
