A Florida lawmaker reportedly plans to propose a bill requiring local schools to show students the newly released documentary from conservative filmmaker and Obama critic Dinesh D'Souza.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Republican state Sen. Alan Hays wants to make the film “America” required viewing for public high schools and middle schools, barring parental objection.

“I saw the movie and walked out of the theater and said, ‘Wow, our students need to see this.’ And it’s my plan to show it to my colleagues in the legislature, too, before they’re asked to vote on the bill,” Hays reportedly said.

“America” is the latest in a series of films from D'Souza asserting that liberal policies are hurting the country. Prior films focused specifically on the alleged failures of the Obama administration.

Hays, though, told The Hollywood Reporter he’d be fine with teachers also showing a more liberal-leaning film to balance out the showing of “America.”

D’Souza, while promoting his new movie, is also facing legal troubles. He pleaded guilty in May to a charge that he made improper donations to a Senate candidate in 2012.

He later told Fox News that while he takes responsibility, he questioned whether he was selectively prosecuted. He said he was able to avoid a second charge by pleading guilty to one of them.
