The Obama campaign aide taking heat for allegedly "lying" about her knowledge of the man at the center of a controversial anti-Romney ad is no low-level operative.

Stephanie Cutter, currently President Obama's deputy campaign manager, used to serve as the president's deputy senior adviser.

Before that, she worked for some of the biggest Democratic lawmakers and groups in Washington, and has been a regular fixture on the airwaves for those causes over the years.

Cutter, a Georgetown Law grad, got her start in the Clinton administration in various communications roles. She moved on to work for the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Harry Reid.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Cutter worked as Michelle Obama's chief of staff and, after the election, was top spokeswoman for the transition team.

She worked with the Treasury Department before joining the White House, and then the Obama re-election campaign.
