Corzine Falling Behind Christie in New Jersey Governor's Race

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine is falling further behind his Republican challenger in his bid for re-election, according to a new poll.

A Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday showed Corzine trailing Christopher Christie by 10 points. The margin was 6 points three weeks ago.

Christie's 47-to-37 percent lead among likely voters is even wider among independents, who favor Christie over Corzine by 46-to-30 percent.

The survey also suggested Corzine's campaign ads are failing to resonate. Of those who had seen his ads criticizing Christie -- a former U.S. attorney -- for awarding contracts to people tied to George W. Bush, 56 percent called them unfair.

The poll of 1,612 likely voters in New Jersey was taken from Aug. 25-30. It had a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points.
