Sometimes today's kids get a bad rap, right? We think they're too entitled and don't really get what hard work really is. That's why we love to showcase good news stories on this show from time to time -- to honor young people making a difference in their communities and beyond.

What I particularly think is so important in Savannah Solis' message is a tenet she's already learned to base her life on. It's something I’m so grateful my parents taught me as well: "to whom much is given, much is expected." Gratitude and giving back -- to me -- is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our kids. To teach them to look at the world from the right perspective and learn early on its not all about them.

Savannah is obviously on the right track.  And hopefully her story will inspire other young kids -- or their parents or grandparents -- to encourage the young people in their lives to do something similar. It can be little or big.

It's the simple act of giving back that counts.
