It's been 12 years since a Montgomery County mother spent a day with her son. He was taken from her when he was just 5-years-old.

But that all changed during a reunion this weekend made possible through Facebook, Fox 29's Chris O'Connell reported exclusively Sunday.

For 12 years, pictures were the only thing Kattia Liebers had of her son, Jared.

Her nightmare started in her homeland of Costa Rica. In the middle of a bitter custody dispute, she says her estranged husband literally snatched their son and left the country.

For years she searched for Jared, having no idea where he was.

More On This...

More than a decade later, the wait was over. Her life changed once again. And it came by way of a single message on Facebook.

"Hi is this Kattia Chacon Sanchez by any chance?" the original message asked.

"Who is this?" the mother said she replied.

"I'm Jared Liebers," came the reply.

"If you're Jared Liebers, I'm your mom, and I love you very much," the mother wrote back.

Jared Liebers had found his mother.

"I cried really hard. It was emotional. I finally got in contact after all these years," he said Sunday.

He had been living with his father for the past decade in Israel. Jared now spent the next two months every day talking to his mother.

On Sunday, he moved back to the United States to be with his mom. Then came the reunion, and more 10 years of lost time vanished.

Through the years she kept all of his pictures and toys. He kept a hold of book on Spanish words she gave him. Now, it's catching up on half a lifetime.

Kattia Liebers actually kept her married name so her son would be able to find her all these years.

As for Jared, he's enrolling in North Penn High School and is looking forward to a lot of catching up with mom.
