New York’s late night art gallery gets boozy

It’s not often you walk into a lounge and your jaw drops.

But it will when you when you walk down the stairs and into Studio, an eccentric new lounge at 201 Park Ave. South in Manhattan

Formally Lilium, at the W New York – Union Square, it is now an art gallery with cocktails.

All thanks to Scott Gerber, of the renowned Gerber Group, and the prominent New York-based contemporary artist Domingo Zapata.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Gerber, principal and CEO of hospitality at Studio, who explained that this was a first-time collaboration for both of them.

Now Gerber knows nightlife -- with 18 venues since 1991, Gerber Group owns well-known brands like Whiskey Blue, Whiskey Park, Living Room, and Stone Rose Lounge, to name a few.

And yet he loves art. But understands not everyone can get to an art gallery.

Enter Zapata, who was looking for a place to paint and entertain that wasn’t in his own home.

So the two came together and Gerber gave Zapata creative liberty to paint the walls as he wanted.

The result was one-of-a-kind large-scale canvas inspired by the book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Then Gerber added his forte – an expansive collection of classic cocktails including a “create-your-own” gin and tonic bar, and of course, a ton of different wines.

He also added small plates like arancini, seasonal pizzas, charcuterie and bruschetta.

Throw in some live music --and you want for nothing.

Watch the video above if you don’t believe me.

And if you need a place to go for a drink or to have your next holiday party – trust me, this is it.

Cent’ Anni.
