There are no more private jets. No more fancy dinners with David and Victoria Beckham. No more being the wife of the most powerful actor in Hollywood.

For Katie Holmes, after a jet-set start, a fairytale wedding in Italy, and what would on Sunday have been six years of marriage to Tom Cruise, there is just ... being normal. And a source tells Fox411 Katie couldn't be happier raising Suri on her own in New York City.

"She's living the life she's meant to live. She’s a girl from Ohio who had a crush on Tom Cruise, had that come to life, was swept off her feet and realized in the end, it wasn't who she really is," said the insider. "The best thing that happened was Suri."

November 18 would have been Katie and Tom's sixth wedding anniversary. Last year, they celebrated by visiting an ice skating rink in Pittsburgh with Suri. They were the picture of happiness, holding hands and smiling and it appeared all was well in the Cruise household. Now, just a year later, Holmes will be in New York working while Cruise films his new thriller, “All You Need is Kill,” in London.

More On This...

What a difference twelve months makes.

On June 29, Holmes shocked the world -- and apparently her husband as well -- when she filed for divorce. The split was quick and amicable, by Hollywood standards. Now, Holmes, 33, is a happy single working mom.

"Katie is perfectly happy starring on Broadway and going to Whole Foods," says the source.

Last night Holmes even made her first talk show appearance post-Cruise, going on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" to talk about her long ago days on "Dawson's Creek."

"I love everyone from the show and we have kind of talked about [a reunion] here and there, but what do you do?" she asked. "Michelle's character passed away...Our last episode, we were already five years older. Maybe we'll go on vacation, that will be fun — and just film it!"

Katie is also trying to instill her wholesome Midwestern roots in her six-year-old daughter. The two are often spotted near their (very normal) Chelsea building dropping into the grocery store, or walking home from Avenues, Suri's nearby school. They often visit a nearby park after school, avoiding the paparazzi when possible. Katie goes for solo walks around the neighborhood, dressing like any mom in low-key jeans and boots, and rides the subway to the Music Box Theater, where she is starring in “Dead Accounts."

“She is getting great reviews in previews, everyone loves her," says the source. "You root for Katie."

Holmes' rep and Cruise's lawyer did not return emails for comment on this story.
