Amy Schumer mocks Trump supporters again
Four4Four: During a NYC show, Amy Schumer doubled down on criticizing Trump supporters after walkouts from her Florida performance. Did she cross the line?
NEW YORK – Amy Schumer didn’t hold back when she took the stage in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. About five minutes into her show, she addressed her headline-making Donald Trump comments that caused about 200 attendees at her Tampa, Fla., show to walk out.
The comedian told the audience at her sold-out show that she wanted to address the issue. Then the words “Trump Supporter Trigger Warning" flashed on screens over the stage, and Schumer launched into a reading of a mock apology letter to the city of Tampa.
“Dearest Tampa, I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now,” Schumer’s sarcastic letter stated. “How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”
The comedian’s letter also included an apology for calling the GOP presidential nominee “an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster” – a phrase she repeated several times.
“Shouldn’t have said that,” she said to a roar of laughter. “I will never again say that he is an orange, sexually assaulting, fake-college-starting monster. Never again.”
She also quipped that she would seek help for her past transgressions.
"After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy,” she said. “Both the rich, entitled, white people who are gonna vote for him and the very poor people -- who've been tricked into it!"
Schumer told the New York City crowd she was grateful for the fans in Tampa, including the ones who left her show and noted that soon the election will no longer be a topic of conversation.
“I look forward to putting this all behind us in a couple weeks when Hillary Clinton is our muthaf---in’ president!” Schumer shouted. The crowd erupted in applause in response.
The move comes after about 200 people at Schumer’s Tampa show walked out following a bit where she called a Trump supporter up on stage and quizzed him about his decision to vote for the Republican candidate.
During Sunday’s show at the Amalie Arena, Schumer reportedly became frustrated while questioning a man named Dave about his pro-Trump stance.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that Schumer asked him, “Do you get worried at all with how impulsive he is . . . do you worry he’ll be impulsive and get us in a lot of f---ing trouble we can’t get out of?”
When the crowd booed in reply, Schumer fired back.
“Of course, we’re in Florida, you’re going to boo,” she said, according to the newspaper. “I know you’re here to laugh, but you choose how you’re going to live your life, and it’s just too important . . . Just so you know, from now on, if you yell out, you’re gonna get thrown out.”
Schumer, who is a distant cousin to Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., shared the Tampa Bay Times’ review of her show on Twitter writing, “All love Tampa.”
Ahead of Tuesday’s show, Schumer had shared an Instagram photo with a caption that promised “a squeaky clean show.” She added the hashtag #tampaapologytour to her post.
The comedian quickly moved on after her apology and performed for nearly 90 minutes and only got political towards the end of her show when she went into a routine about gun control, mocking Second Amendment advocates.
Before Schumer took the stage, she was introduced by Madonna, who told several jokes of her own and promised the crowd that she would perform a particular sexual act on everyone who votes for Hillary Clinton.
