Gisele Bündchen takes one last stroll down the runway
The Brazilian beauty bid farewell to the catwalk, closing out a stellar 20-year career.
Gisele Bundchen is taking a break from her retirement from the catwalk to help kick off the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The 35-year-old supermodel is set to jump-start the festivities by strutting through Maracana Stadium on Aug. 5, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
The Brazilian beauty stepped away from the runway in 2015 after a stellar 20-year career.
Returning to her native country for a short comeback is a natural fit for Bundchen. The mother of two became a household name around the world after she was discovered by a modeling agency at age 14 while on a school trip to Sao Paulo. She then came in second in a nationwide modeling contest and not long afterward she made it big on New York's fashion runways.
For her final bow in April of last year, Bundchen returned to the Brazilian capital for a catwalk gig with Colcci, a Brazilian streetwear label she has represented since 2005.
At the time, she shared on Instagram: "I am grateful that at 14 I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today, after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.”
Bundchen will not be the only Brazilian model getting into the Olympic spirit.
People magazine reported that fellow Victoria's Secret Angels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio also have been tapped by NBC as the new food and culture correspondents for the Rio Games.
"Brazilians are very passionate about sports, sports run in our blood!" Lima told the magazine. "We're just so honored to have this huge event in our country."
The two will act as special contributors for NBC's late night programming with Ryan Seacrest.
"I am so proud that the games are in Rio this year," Ambrosio told the magazine.
