'So You Think You Can Dance' season 4 winner charged with domestic violence

"So You Think You Can Dance" season 4 winner, Joshua Allen, is facing domestic violence charges after allegedly physically injuring his girlfriend, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said on Thursday.

The 27-year-old dancer faces two felony counts of willfully injuring his girlfriend after a prior conviction and one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, a glass vase.

According to authorities, Allen was previously convicted of a misdemeanor count of willfully injuring the unnamed woman in January, which led to a protective order to be issued, prohibiting him from communicating with his girlfriend.

On April 13, Allen is alleged to have assaulted and strangled the same woman. According to prosecutors, approximately two months later, on June 19, while facing prosecution for the alleged April incident, Allen reportedly attacked the same victim and chased her into a coffee shop. Allen then allegedly threw a glass vase at a woman who attempted to help the victim and attacked another man who also tried to intervene. Prosecutors say bystanders at the coffee shop were eventually able to help subdue Allen.

If convicted, Allen faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 10 years in state prison. Prosecutors will ask for $270,000 bail. The case is still under investigation by the LAPD.

Allen, who also was in "Step Up 3D" and the 2011 "Footloose" remake, was set to appear on "So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation," but was replaced by Marko Germar.

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer and judge on "SYTYCD" kept coy about Allen's absence on the show.

"Joshua [Allen] could not commit to the complete series," Lythgoe said when asked why Allen had been replaced. "For personal reasons, he could not commit to the entire series. We didn't want to just bring somebody in for a few weeks and then drop them. So we agreed to let him out of his contract."

"So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation" airs Mondays on Fox.
