Carolina Herrera has succeeded in the fashion world by keeping it classy – and never had to venture to the hip or edgy. So the new trend by some of Hollywood’s A-list stars to wear sheer dresses on the red carpet baffles the legendary designer.
She has two words for them: “Cover up!”
“(Some designers think) it’s so modern to be naked or almost naked. They think it’s going to attract younger people if they do these dresses. No!” Herrera told the Washington Post recently. “The almost naked! Oh God! They’re trying to get people to pay attention to them. In life, there should be a little mystery.”
“They’re supposed to be fashion icons and they’re not wearing anything,” Herrera said. “It’s an obsession now.”
At the Met Gala last month, Lopez left very little for the imagination in her red Versace gown with sheer side panels. Kardashian opted for a sheer white gown with a feathery train while Beyonce donned a ultra-sheer, bejeweled Givenchy Haute Couture gown by Riccardo Tisci.
“Fashion is about proportion,” Herrera said.
