On Travel Channel's new series "Time Traveling With Brian Unger," viewers are taken on a historical journey of America's greatest landmarks — but Unger isn't covering the same stories you learned in high school.

In each episode, the show's ever-curious (and quick-witted) host literally takes four locals on a tour of their very own towns to reveal the little-known history behind their cities' greatest landmarks.

"You'd be amazed at what people don't know about their own hometown," says Unger. "My job is to rub their noses in it."

"Time Traveling" viewers might also recognize Brian Unger from his time on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," where he served as an original correspondent during the program's early years — way before it was ever embroiled in any sort of actual controversy like that over its new host Trevor Noah.

"When we started the show, we wanted it to be a satire on the self-importance of media," he laughs. "So that anyone is taking this seriously is kind of ironic."
