It has been a difficult year for ABC News reporter Elizabeth Vargas, who announced this week that she was returning to rehab to deal with her alcohol addiction.

Amid the on-going struggle, which she admitted has taken a toll on her family, now multiple reports are saying that she and Grammy-winning husband Marc Cohn, 55, have separated and are ending their 12-year marriage.

“Marc and Elizabeth are in divorce proceedings,” a source told People. “The kids are with him in New York while she seeks treatment.”

E! News reported the couple has been finalizing their divorce for a while.

The 51-year-old news anchor and Cohn wed in 2002 and have two sons. While neither has commented on the split, Cohn issued a statement to People, offering his support to his estranged wife.

“On behalf of Elizabeth’s family, we are in total support of her recover and want her to be well,” he wrote.

In her statement announcing her return to rehab earlier this week, Vargas said she “let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry.”

The news of the divorce comes five months after reports that Cohn had cheated during Vargas’ first stint in rehab last November.

The singer of the 1992 hit “Walking in Memphis” called the reports “vicious rumors.”
