Her divorce to Marc Anthony was a difficult time in her life, but Jennifer Lopez would not change anything about it.

In a recent interview with People magazine, the 44-year-old singer opened up about her relationship, marriage and subsequent divorce to the salsa crooner.

“I went through a tremendous low,” Lopez said. “But I wouldn’t change anything (about my past) because it made me who I am.”

Lopez and Anthony, 45, ended their eight-year marriage in 2012. They have two children, 6-year-old twins Max and Emme.

The “American Idol” judge said their split allowed her to reevaluate her view on relationships and to “take a look at what was going on.”

“As women we can sometimes give ourselves away,” Lopez said. “I was certainly guilty of that for some time. Now I realized I am good on my own, so now I can share my life with somebody.”

Today, Lopez, who is releasing her 10th studio album, “A.K.A.,” and will be the first woman to receive the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is in a relationship with Casper Smart. But she notes that her kids are the biggest loves of her life.

“I just feel like I went through a real growth spurt as a human being (when I became a mother),” she said. “Having babies allowed me to realize what real unconditional love was.”
