Actress Sara Ramirez along with co-stars Chandra Wilson, Justin Chambers and James Pickens Jr. have renewed two-year deals with ABC’s medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.”
The Hollywood Reporter said their contacts will ensure they stay on Shonda Rhime’s hit show through a potential 11th and 12th season with co-stars Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, who extended their contracts earlier this year.
On “Grey’s Anatomy,” Ramirez, 38, plays orthopedic surgeon Callie Torres who is married to Arizona Robbins, played by actress Jessica Capshaw. The Mexican-American actress joined the show as a recurring star at the end of season two and was upped to a series regular in season three.
“These writers – they trust us with these story lines,” Ramirez told Fox News Latino about the show in November. “And it’s a fantastic opportunity to play the drama and the comedic tones. It stretches us as actors to convince the audience of the story line.”
The show has recently gone through a number of casting changes. Emmy nominee Sandra Oh announced at the beginning of season 10 that she would be departing at the end of the season. Her final episode airs May 15.
Actors Gaius Charles and Tessa Ferrer, who began as recurring stars before being promoted to series regulars at the start of the current season, will also exit as their contracts were not picked for the show’s expected season 11.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s official renewal for season 11 is expected to come next week.
