Mexican singer and fellow telenovela actress Thalia, who was the lead in the show “Maria Mercedes” – which gave Alvarez her first role – said on Twitter: “Sad news with the departure of Karlita Alvarez. Great memories on Maria Mercedes. Prayers and light to her family. Rest in peace.”
Actress Kate del Castillo, also 41, worked with Alvarez on the show “La Mentira” and expressed her sadness on a post on Instagram.
“You left too soon my dear Karla Alvarez, you will be missed here,” she wrote with a picture of both of them on the set of the telenovela. “I will never forget the wonderful times we lived together! #LaMentira #QEPD my prayers to the family.”
In an interview with Fox News Latino on Monday, del Castillo said the news of Alvarez was very shocking for everyone who knew her. She said they became close during the filming of “La Mentira,” but their career paths took them in different directions and lost touch.
“She’s an amazing actress, she’s an amazing girl,” del Castillo said. “It’s just shocking (that) someone so young that’s gone.”
Alvarez was found dead Friday in her home in the Mexican capital. According to the Attorney General in Mexico City, Alvarez died from cardiac arrest stemming from bulimia and anorexia.
Alvarez, who began her career in 1992 alongside Thalia, appeared in several telenovelas, including “Mi Querida Isabel,” “Agujetas de Color de Rosa,” and “Prisionera de Amor,” her last role being in “Que Bonito Amor” with actors Jorge Salinas and Danna Garcia.
Garcia, who also worked with Alvarez in “Un Gancho Al Corazon” said, “Karlita, you left us … Your happiness will stay with us. I love you wherever you are.”
Alexis Ayala, Alvarez’s her ex-husband, wrote: “So sad, rest in peace Karla Alvarez. God has you in his glory.”
Her “Alma Rebelde” co-star Aracely Arambula said, “Deeply saddened today… I feel sorry for the loss of our dear colleague Karla. I love you Alvarez and I hug you from here.”
Joining others was singer Olga Tañon who said, “I join the mourning of the sudden death of Mexican actress Karla Alvarez. Sad news and so young R.I.P.!”
“What sad news of the death of Karla Alvarez,” offered singer Lucero. “Rest in peace. My deepest condolences to her family, friends, lots of light.”
According to reports, Alvarez’s family held a private burial on Sunday.
