Demi Lovato has come a long way since her Disney days. With a new healthy outlook on life and sizzling singing career, Lovato is taking on her latest role as a judge on "The X Factor."
Being in the public eye, Demi Lovato’s personal struggles have always been out in the open.
Since undergoing treatment in November 2010 for bulimia and cutting, the star has been honest about her recovery process.
In her most recent interview with Fabulous magazine, the star of Disney’s "Sonny With A Chance" talked candidly about the enablers that encouraged her downward spiral.
"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my a--," Lovato said.
"I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no'. That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."
While not going into specifics about her drug use, Lovato did open up about the emotions going through her head at the time.
"It's something I don't really want to talk about," Lovato told Fabulous apologetically.
"What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up'."
While her road to recovery has included some slip-ups, with Lovato admitting to having thrown up and to cutting herself since leaving rehab, the young starlet is learning to love her new curvaceous body.
"After so long being thin, it was terrifying being heavier. But I am a naturally curvy Hispanic girl. I don't deprive myself. I had a Kit Kat last night…”
And interestingly enough, psychologist and author Rachel A. Sussman told gossip site CelebBuzz that Lovato’s now fuller figure is what men really want.
“We are all created to look different,” said Sussman. But while Hollywood has embraced the super skinny look Sussman says “men actually like women who are full figured” in real life.
But even though Lovato has never had any trouble in the love department, with famous exes Joe Jonas and Wilmer Valderrama, she told Fabulous that a boyfriend right now is not her priority.
"I'm not dating at all. I love having a boyfriend but need to be secure on my own first," she says.
