Before Kim Kardashian's announcement Monday that she and Kris Humphries' 72-day marriage was dunzo, the Kardashian family went above and beyond to convince ayone who would listen that, despite mounting reports of trouble in paradise, everything between the newlyweds was fine and dandy.
But insiders tell Fox411's Pop Tarts column that the marriage was doomed from day one.
"Kris really wanted to start a family, but Kim wanted to wait for kids," said a source close to the Kardashians. "He was also upset that Kim wouldn’t change her last name, and he felt that she wasn’t prepared to make sacrifices for his career."
But that's not all.
"Kim's mom also got way too involved in their relationship, and was peeved that their reality show made him look like a total jackass," the insider said.
The source said Humphries may have also contributed to the laser-quick end of his first marriage.
"Apparently he was still talking to and texting girls from his past," said the source. "So there are two sides to every story."
Another insider close to Kardashian places the blame directly on Kim.
“She made a sex tape, did Playboy for money and now it seems a wedding for money,” the source told us. “Where is the line drawn?”
What the Kardashian Klan may not have anticipated was the swell of negative press in response to the news, and a fed-up fan base who feel fooled.
"I can't wait for E!'s obligatory Kim Kardashian 2-Hour Divorce Spectacular," tweeted one person. Another disgruntled fan claimed the wedding/divorce was "strictly for ratings and attention." Many others have been tweeting that the star should now at least donate her quickie wedding profits to a charitable cause.
However, it appears as though Kardashian did at least save a little face by filing for divorce instead of an annulment. "It is hard to say for sure why she chose divorce, but it could be for the PR," explained California-based attorney, David Wohl. "A lot of people bought gifts and spent a lot of money on the couple, how would they feel if the legal result of this was that the marriage never happened?"
Pop Tarts was told that Humphries, on the other hand, comes from a very religious family, and therefore divorce and marriage aren’t entered into lightly.
But business-savvy Kardashian, who has an estimated worth of $35 million compared to Humphries' estimated $8 million, made sure to enter into an iron-clad pre-nup, so divorce dealings should be pretty straightforward.
"I can only surmise that their pre-nuptial agreement says 'What's mine is mine, and what's yours is yours' and the two will not mix. There was not enough time for them to accumulate anything new in this marriage," added Marilyn Chinitz, Partner at Blank Rome LLP. "It should be a very easy divorce, but it is a bad message to send. There is so much concentration on 'Let's do what's good for the show and the ratings' instead of 'Let's do what's good for our lives.' Making a commitment to someone and getting married means an awful lot, and you don't make these quick decisions for very short-term results."
