EXCLUSIVE: Natalie Portman Knows Getting Pregnant Is a Blessing in Itself

Natalie Portman will soon be entering a new chapter of her life – motherhood. The daughter of a fertility doctor, Portman, 29, is acutely aware that it is a blessing in itself just to have the ability to conceive a child.

“I’m so excited. My dad is a fertility doctor, so I know this is a very lucky experience, and not something I can take for granted,” Portman told FOX411’s Pop Tarts while promoting her upcoming romantic comedy “No Strings Attached.” “I feel so, so lucky. I am trying to take it all in and enjoy everything. It makes me feel calmer about everything to be in such a lucky place in my personal life.”

According to the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth by the CDC, infertility impacts about 12 percent of the reproductive-age population in the United States. This includes approximately 7.3 million women and their partners.

Last month Portman, a favorite to take home the Golden Globe this Sunday for her role as a delusional ballerina in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller “Black Swan,” announced that she and New York City Ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied, who she met during filming, were engaged and expecting their first child together. While off-screen sparks were obviously flying between those two, on-screen Portman caused jaws to drop by getting down and dirty with her female co-star, Mila Kunis. And in her new flick “No Strings Attached” the starlet again gets pretty hot-and-heavy with her counterpart, Ashton Kutcher.

But given that her next role will be a real-life mom, Portman, who is just sporting the beginnings of a baby bump on her slender frame, isn’t so sure if she’ll sign on to roles involving such steamy scenes in the future.

“I have no idea (if motherhood will influence the roles I choose.) I just have no idea what it is going to be like,” she said. “I’ll figure out the right choices when it happens.”
