'L-Word' Spin-off Follows Gay Character In Prison

'It's not all lesbians,' says Showtime president. 'It is more of a ... mixed group.'

THINK of it as "Oz" - for women.

Showtime has confirmed it recently completed a spinoff of "The L Word" in which one the show's most popular characters, Alice Pieszecki (played by Leisha Hailey), lands in prison for murder.

"It's tied into 'The L Word' storyline this year with the Jenny character that gets killed," network president Bob Greenblatt tells The Post.

Famke Janssen ("Nip/Tuck") guest stars in the first episode, along with Melissa Leo ("Frozen River") and Laurie Metcalf ("Roseanne") who appear as prison guards.

"It's not all lesbians like 'The L Word,' " Greenblatt says. "It is more of a sort of mixed group of female characters, some of whom are lesbians.
