Angelina Jolie Steams as Anne Hathaway Wins 'Best Actress'

Anne Hathaway couldn't hold back the rambling and tears as she received the dual honor of Best Actress (along with "Doubt" actress Meryl Streep) for her performance in "Rachel Getting Married" at Thursday night's VH1 Critics Choice Awards. But one lady who looked less-than-impressed was fellow nominee Angelina Jolie.

As Hathaway gushed about how thrilling it was to win something with her "idol" Streep, the cameras caught Jolie (twice) with such a severe scowl it caused quite the gasp backstage.

Let's put it this way: if looks could kill, Hathaway would definitely be dead.

"Angelina didn’t say much for the rest of the night," an eyewitness told Tarts. "She was all smiles before the announcement, and it was clear she wasn’t happy."

For a the world’s highest-paid actress, one would think Jolie would have found it an appropriate time to use her skills to hide those feelings of disappointment.

But back to Anne, this certainly isn’t the first time film critics have managed to trigger a tear or two.

"I cried it with joy the first time I got a good review from the New York Times. I cried with joy because it took forever and I had to memorize it," she told Tarts. "They said my performance from 'Becoming Jane' was a triumph, and I felt so happy, because I’d never gotten a good review from them, so I cried and cried. Then the bad ones, well you try to learn from them. Sometimes you’re even ballsy enough to disagree with them."

Hathaway received her highest acting praise to-date with her role as a tortured rehabber in "Rachel Getting Married," but she insisted that she never lets the turmoil of her personal life and her break-up with jailed beau Raffaello Follieri to influence the characters she plays.

"I think it’s dangerous to use what’s going on in your personal life, it’s destructive and misleading because most of the time they have nothing to do with each other," she said. "As an actress I love being able to leave my life behind."

But despite the scandalous split, the 26-year-old couldn’t be better.

"I’m a pretty happy person even in critical moments," she added. "How could I not be? I’m truly blessed and loved in my life."

Is Paris Hilton Lying About Number Of Sexual Partners?

Paris Hilton is known just as much for her high-profile hookups as she is for being a hotel heiress, but apparently the party princess has only gone all the way with just a few guys in her life.

"I've only ever done it with a couple of people. People make up stories, but mostly I just kiss," Hilton recently told Glamour Magazine. "I think it's important to play hard to get. Nobody wants the fake Prada bag — they want the brand new bag that no one can get and is the most expensive. If you give it up to a guy he won’t respect you. He’ll want you much more if he can’t have you."

So even though the 28-year-old has been romantically linked to anyone and everyone from Benji Madden to Brandon Davis to Nick Carter to Leonardo DiCaprio to Jared Leto to Stavros Niarchos to Rick Salomon, we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Back in 2006 Hilton pretty much said the same thing to British GQ magazine, claiming that she had only ever slept with two men in her whole life and even made a one-year chastity pledge.

Paris recently returned from a whirlwind NYE trip Down Under where it seems she was far better-behaved than another trip a couple of years ago. While canoodling in a five-star hotel spa with Australian singer Robert Mills, we’re told by hotel insiders that the two couldn’t find the bath plugs so they shoved soaps down the plugholes. Consequently several hotel rooms below them were badly flooded, causing thousands of dollars in damages. Hmmm, another expensive romantic romp.

Richard Gere Has a Go At China and Dubya

Richard Gere received the prestigious Joel Siegel Humanitarian honor at the Critics Choice Awards, and the "Pretty Woman" star was certainly eager to express (even more) political opinions backstage.

"The Chinese want to be successful," he said, in reference to the country's current crisis with Tibet. "But their system is faulty and destructive to their future."

As for his thoughts on our next president and first lady...

"I think Michelle (Obama) is bright and engaged and real," Gere said. "It's astonishing; we actually elected two real people after eight years of aliens."

Mind you, Gere won’t be attending the upcoming inauguration due to a "fear of crowds".

And while most stars are chuffed just to be invited to star-studded awards shows, Richard made his feelings about the whole season quite clear.

"I'd rather not go to them (awards shows)," he admitted, adding that he's never been "into" Hollywood things and people.
