Top US military officer condemns leak of Afghanistan documents, says may risk American lives

Published November 17, 2014

BAGHDAD (AP) — The top U.S. military officer says the leak of U.S. military documents about Afghanistan could put American lives at risk.

Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters in Baghdad Tuesday that he was "appalled" by the leak.

He says "there is a real potential threat there to put American lives at risk."

American officials have condemned the weekend release of more than 90,000 secret U.S. military documents on the Afghanistan war by an organization called WikiLeaks.

The documents paint an unflattering light on the U.S.-led war and include files documenting Afghan civilian deaths and evidence of U.S.-Pakistani distrust.
