Report: Chinese Boy Who Died After Drinking Yogurt Drink Was Likely Victim of Poisoning

Chinese authorities say the child who died after drinking a Coca-Cola-made yogurt drink was likely the victim of a deliberate poisoning, not related to the product’s quality, Reuters reports, citing the country’s official media report.
In the preliminary conclusion, investigators found high levels of toxic pesticides in the strawberry-flavored Pulpy Milky yogurt drink, the report said. Evidence collected thus far cuts the chances of a wider recall of Coke products in the northeastern region of the country.
Coca-Cola reportedly said through a spokeswoman that the incident “is not related in any way to our product quality.”
On Nov. 28, an 11-year-old in Changchun City died after he had the drink. The report said his mother also grew sick after having the same yogurt drink. Days earlier, a similar instance occurred in the same region when a mother and daughter drank another bottle of the product and grew sick; the two eventually recovered, the report said.
