Pulse nightclub owner says Latin Night is on: 'We need to show we are strong'

The owner of Pulse nightclub in Orlando, the site of a horrendous massacre of 49 people by Omar Mateen, says her staff will be hosting a “Latin Night” street party on Thursday, 12 nights after the shooting.
In a statement to NPR, Pulse's owner, Barbara Poma, said, "We need to show that we are strong, that Pulse continues and that we appreciate all the help the community has shown us.”
Since the club is still closed, the party will take place about two miles away. Performers will be entertaining crowds through the night. Poma said in her statement that the city has gone through “a terrible and extraordinary ordeal, and everyone must keep moving forward.”
Poma told NPR that she is committed to keeping Pulse alive, and the street party is a great way to do that.
The shooting took place on June 12. According to local reports, Mayor Buddy Dyer and City Commissioner Patty Sheehan have both been invited to attend the street party paying tribute to the LGBT Latin community and the lives that were lost that night.
