NKorea, American-led UN Command to meet again amid tension over warship sinking

Published November 17, 2014

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The American-led U.N. Command says it will hold talks with North Korea over the sinking of a South Korean warship blamed on Pyongyang.

The U.N. Command said in a statement Thursday the meeting will take place at the Korean border village of Panmunjom on Friday.

It would be the second time for the two sides to meet since the March 26 sinking that killed 46 South Korean sailors. During last week's talks, North Korea reiterated it was not responsible for the incident and wants its own investigation into the case.

The statement says the two sides will discuss details of the date, agenda and protocols for higher-level talks among their generals on the issue.

The U.N. Command oversees an armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War.
