Man to appear in court charged with raping 3 British tourists on Greek holiday island

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Authorities say a Greek man has been charged with raping three British women on the holiday island of Corfu.
The 37-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a court on the island Saturday.
Police said Thursday the suspect had turned himself in and been arrested the previous evening after spending about a week hiding in a mountainous and forested area of the island.
The man, who police say has spent "large periods of time incarcerated in prison" for previous rape convictions, is accused of raping and robbing three British tourists between July 12 and Aug. 19 this year.
He appeared before a prosecutor Thursday and was given until Saturday to prepare his defense. He is being held in detention until his court appearance.
