George Zimmerman shot at during road rage incident in Florida

Police say George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watchman whose acquittal in the killing of an unarmed black man sparked national outrage, was reportedly shot at during a road-rage incident in Florida.

The shooting occurred near a park in Orlando at about 1 p.m. Zimmerman’s attorney said the bullet missed his head and he was sprayed with glass from the vehicle’s windshield and other debris.

"His injuries would be considered minor," said his attorney, Don West. "The bullet missed his head. I think it broke a window and lodged in his vehicle."

Zimmerman was released from a hospital. He thinks he may know who is responsible for the shooting and is cooperating with authorities, West said.

Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin in a case that reignited a national debate about race relations in the U.S.

The Justice Department later announced it was not bringing a civil rights case against Zimmerman.
Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has had several brushes with the law.

Those include two incidents involving allegations of assault by girlfriends, and his wife claiming he smashed her iPad.

Charges were either dropped or not pursued because of a lack of evidence in those cases.
