PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — A European Union official in Kosovo says a former French general has been named to head the 27-member bloc's police mission in Kosovo.
Mission spokeswoman Karin Limdal says Xavier Bout de Marnhac will replace former French NATO commander Yves de Kermabon as head of the 2,000-strong police force known as EULEX.
The EU force is tasked with monitoring Kosovo's troubled justice system while it deals with organized crime and corruption. In recent months EULEX has launched investigations into alleged financial wrongdoing in Kosovo's Ministry of Transport and the Central Bank.
De Marnhac was in charge of NATO's Kosovo mission when the territory seceded from Serbia in 2008.
