Family and friend attended a wake for a teen killed in a tragic party bus accident.
16-year-old Daniel Fernandez was killed when he stuck his head out of an emergency hatch of a double decker bus and hit the bottom of an underpass.
Friends describe Daniel as the type of kid always with a smile on his face, always happy, and the reality that he's gone is just now sinking in.
"He was very good boy, I'm very heartbroken," said one wake attendee.
Hundreds flooded a Rego Park, Queens funeral home to mourn a life cut short in an instant.
"It's hard for me, I can't imagine for the people a lot closer to him," said one student.
Daniels death has become a nightmare these students never dreamed could happen.
Daniel, who would have been a junior at St. Francis Prep, was among 65 teens aboard the double decker headed to a sweet 16 party in New Jersey.
"My daughter always tells me ‘Mom this is one of the reasons why', it's really sad," added the mother of Daniel's classmate.
Sources tell Fox 5 News that kids on the bus were goofing around and a security guard had told them to stop when Daniel decided to stick his head out of the bus as it passed under an overpass.
"He was just loved life, it's unbelievable freak accident happened to him," said another classmate.
With school just starting again, St. Francis Prep officials say they're doing what they can to help these students, many of whom were on that bus.
"This is very, very difficult, we need to help the family and students get through this," said Sister Barbara Coyle/Grief Counselor.
St. Francis Prep says it will have several grief counselors on hand to help students at before Daniels funeral.
