Bolivia says US policies prevent ties

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

Bolivian President Evo Morales says American policies of "imposition" have prevented his country from reestablishing ties with the United States.

Morales told reporters Wednesday he still worries that "political operatives" in the U.S. will plant something on his presidential plane in an attempt to link him to drug trafficking during his visit to the U.N.

He didn't explain the source for the concerns first voiced over the weekend in Bolivia.

Bolivia-U.S. ties soured in 2008, when the countries expelled each other's ambassador. Morales also expelled U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officials.
