Ariana Grande’s mother sprang into action on Monday night after a suicide bomber struck the Manchester, England arena where her daughter had just performed.
Minutes after the explosion that left 22 dead and 59 injured, Joan Grande began shepherding fans to a backstage area. Grande was heading backstage to visit her daughter when she heard the blast, according to ABC.
As the fans started to bolt toward the exits, Grande told a group seated around her to accompany heer backstage.Once there, she and members of the pop singer’s security team waited with them until they were able to safely leave the arena, according to TMZ.
British authorities have since identified the suicide bomber in the attack as British-born Salman Abedi, 22.
On Tuesday, British Prime Minister Theresa May raised the UK terror threat to “critical.”
“The threat level should be increased, for the time being, from severe to critical," May said, adding that "a further attack may be imminent."
