Authorities in Philadelphia say they have shut down a drug pipeline between a Mexican cartel and Philadelphia with the arrests of five suspects.

District Attorney Seth Williams said Thursday that last week's arrests in Philadelphia and El Paso, Texas, have struck a serious blow to the Sinaloa Cartel's efforts to establish a distribution center in the City of Brotherly Love.

Three of the arrests were made in northeastern Philadelphia on Sept. 8. Authorities refused to release the names of the suspects, citing an ongoing investigation and concerns about retaliation. The suspects are charged with drug and conspiracy counts.

Prosecutors say they seized about 10 kilos of cocaine, which they believe was an initial shipment. The group allegedly had planned to have hundreds of kilos shipped through Philadelphia.
