A Vietnam War veteran is taking matters into his own hands when it comes to warding off crime in his Texas neighborhood.

In large red letters on a white fence, 64-year-old Curtis Jones has written, “Stay out. I will shoot to kill,” a message aimed at warding off potential criminals, MyFoxDFW.com reports.

“I’m really trying to keep from killing somebody,” Jones told MyFoxDFW.com.

But not everyone is pleased with his unusual tactic.

While neighbors agree that prostitution, drugs and other crimes have become all too familiar in the area, “this just looks bad,” Debra Aguilar told the TV station in reference to Jones’ sign.

The city of Dallas’ code compliance department told MyFoxDFW.com it does not regulate the content of signs on private property.
