Three dead in possible firebombing at Southern California tire shop

Published May 03, 2016

A Southern California tire shop where three people died may have been firebombed, authorities said Sunday.

Firefighters arrived at the shop in South El Monte early Saturday and found a terrified and burned man behind a locked gate, trying to escape, MyFoxLA said.

He died despite a firefighter’s heroic effort to save him, the station said. Crews pulled two more bodies from the shop after the fire was extinguished.  Authorities were trying to determine their genders.

They called the fire arson.

A 911 caller reported the fire after seeing someone throw a Molotov cocktail at the shop.

Witnesses saw a white Silverado pickup leaving the scene at the time of the fire.

A firefighter suffered minor, second-degree facial burns while trying to rescue the man and battle the fire, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher told MyFoxLA.
