Authorities in Massachusetts are searching for a suspect who allegedly fired shots at a police cruiser Wednesday.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. in the town of Millis, Mass., when the cruiser was struck by gunfire before crashing and catching on fire, Massachusetts State Police said in a news release.

The suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting, is described as a white male driving a dark colored, possibly maroon pickup truck, police said.

Massachusetts State Police were not aware of any injuries as a result of the incident.

State police said in a series of tweets that the agency’s Air Wing responded to the scene, as well as detectives and ballistic units.

The officer involved in the crash was treated and released from the hospital, MyFoxBoston.com reported.

Officials announced late Wednesday that as a result of the incident, schools in Millis will be closed Thursday. Police told MyFoxBoston.com a threat made to the town's middle school on Wednesday does not appear to be related to the shooting.
