A suspect who police say stabbed a woman at a California supermarket on Sunday has barricaded himself in a hotel room after firing a shot at a nearby highway, said authorities.
The suspect is barricaded in an Extended Stay hotel in San Rafael, said a police spokeswoman.
Authorities say the man stabbed a woman in the chest and then attempted to injure another employee after he was confronted for shoplifting.
Meanwhile, authorities have shut down a stretch of I-580 near San Rafael Wednesday morning after receiving reports that a person was shooting a gun from a motel near the freeway. It is unclear as to how long the highway will remain closed and few details of the situation have been verified.
