Reports of Gunman on Cal State Northridge Campus Leads to Evacuations

The library at Cal State University Northridge was evacuated after reports Tuesday morning of a gunman on campus. The campus remains open.

At 10:27 a.m., university police received information about a white male, about 5-feet-8-inches tall, wearing a white T-shirt that read, "Human Rights Violation," carrying a weapon, according to postings on its Facebook page.

Officials were alerted that the suspect "possibly indicated he has a gun," Carmen Ramos Chandler, a spokeswoman from the school, told MyFoxLa.com.

University police are currently conducting a search of the Oviatt library, which has been evacuated, according to the school. No arrests have been made and the individual's location is unclear.

The university, which is located in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley and attended by nearly 36,000 students and more than 4,000 faculty and staff, remains open. But the school said any student, faculty member or staff who feels uncomfortable given the circumstances may leave the campus without notifying supervisors, according to a Facebook post.
