Police found cash, money orders, two knives, three cellphones and an IPad in the car occupied by a man charged in the killings of four people inside a Washington mansion, according to a new affidavit made public Friday.
The search warrant was for a white Chevrolet Cruze that Daron Wint was sitting in when he was apprehended by members of fugitive task force, The Washington Post reported.
Wint, 34, has been charged with murder but police believe that he had accomplices in the crime.
Police also used the warrant to search a box truck that was parked next to the Chevy when Wint was arrested.
The police are probing the murders of Savvas Savopoulos, 46, his wife Amy, 47, their son Philip, 10, and their housekeeper Vera Figueroa, 57. Their bodies were found inside the Savopoulos home on May 14.
Other items found in the two vehicles included bank receipts, a black and pink bag, and fingerprints.
WTOP-TV said that the night of Wint’s arrest, marshals saw a stack of $100 bills in the box truck. One of those arrested that night told investigators that the money orders were worth more than $10,000.
Five people were arrested with Wint but they were released.
On Thursday authorities made public a search warrant for a vehicle that belonged to 28-year-old Jordan Wallace, a driver for Savvas Savopoulos.
Wallace told police he delivered $40,000 in cash to the Savolpoulos family’s house while they were being held for ransom.
The warrant said investigators were looking for “evidence related to the murder of the four decedents,” including “forensic and physical evidence linking (the assistant) to this offense.”
Wallace has not been identified as a suspect.
The search of the assistant’s car yielded a laptop computer, external hard drives, two backpacks and his passport, among other items, the documents show.
Savopoulos was the CEO of American Iron Works, a Maryland construction materials supplier based. Wint is a former welder who once worked for American Iron Works, police say. He was arrested May 21.
Investigators said Savopoulos and the others after the ransom was paid. They were held captive for 19 hours.
