NH prep school grad gets 2-week extension to ask for sex-related conviction to be overturned

Lawyers for a New Hampshire prep school graduate have two more weeks to try to convince a judge to dismiss his conviction on sex charges related to an encounter with a 15-year-old girl.

Owen Labrie was convicted Aug. 28 of misdemeanor sexual assault and a felony of using a computer to invite the girl to a secluded spot in May 2014. The sexual contact was part of a practice at St. Paul's School called Senior Salute where graduating students try to have sex with younger classmates.

Lawyers for the 19-year-old Labrie, of Tunbridge, Vermont, say the computer crime should be dismissed because he was acquitted of a felony sex assault charge.

The Concord Monitor (http://bit.ly/1Urcu2q ) reports lawyers had until Friday to make their request. The judge granted an extension so they can research the law.
