A Miami high school football game ended abruptly Friday night after gunshots were heard in the distance, sending players and coaches ducking for cover.

The Miami Herald reports that there was still 2:58 remaining when stadium officials called the game between Miami Central and Miami Carol City high schools.

People in the stands at Traz Powell Stadium ran to the exits when the gunshots were heard. Coaches told players to get down on the field.

Central football coach Ronald Smith said afterward, "You hate to see anything like that happen, but luckily it seems like no one was hurt."

Central beat Carol City 26-8.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
